For this year’s second event, we have invited Kazuhiro Yuhora of Tokuyama University and Naoko Goto of Shiretoko Rausu Linkle Co. to talk about tourism initiatives that make use of local resources.
Dr. Yuzuhora teaches at Tokuyama University in Yamaguchi Prefecture, specializing in regional development from a geographic perspective and tourism promotion using geoparks, and is a frequent guest lecturer at the “Geo-Café” organized by the Apoi Geopark Promotion Council in Samani Town, next to Urakawa.
This time, he will talk about how to show and attract people to a region from the perspective of NHK’s popular TV program “Bratamori,” in which Tamori, a master of walking around the city, “wanders around” to learn about the hidden history of the city and people’s lives. He is known for his lively talk, so please look forward to his talk!
Ms. Naoko Goto, who runs Shiretoko Rausu Linkle Co. in Rausu town, Shiretoko, a World Heritage Site, will also speak at the event.
Shiretoko Rausu Linklc Co. is a tourist guide company that offers tours to experience the fish food culture and nature of Shiretoko Rausu. By offering not only Shiretoko’s great outdoors, but also programs that focus on the fishing industry, such as market auction tours and Rausu kelp processing experiences, the company communicates the high value of the rich natural environment and the lives of the local people who live in harmony with it.

In the second half of the seminar, the Urakawa Tourism Association will give a presentation on its goals for the tourism community, along with a report on this year’s projects.
In addition, a report on the activities of Konomi Yamaguchi, a member of the Urakawa Town Community Development Cooperation Team, who recently launched a website 「Umagnet」 to provide information on Urakawa events, is also scheduled, so don’t miss it!
