Hiren Numa (Tragic Love Pond)

This is a pond that is said to have been created through tragedy. A young Ainu girl wept here for days as her young Japanese love had to return to the mainland. Legend has it that the girl disappeared after many days of crying and a pond appeared. Depending on the season, it is a resting place for migratory birds such as cranes and ducks.
