Shrine visit of the horses is an annual event of Urakawa, the hometown of racehorses. The event will be held on January 2nd 2019 at Nishicha Shrine.
This is a traditional event that has been held since a stallion farm under the jurisdiction of the Cabinet was established in Nishisha, Urakawa town during the Meiji era (1868-1912). This event is held every year mainly by people involved in horse riding to pray for the promotion of horse breeding and good health.
Departing from the riding stables of the JRA Hidaka breeding ranch, more than a dozen horses ride along the 7 km route to Nishicha Shrine, where they pray for the well-being of the people and horses.
A traditional event unique to Urakawa, well worth seeing!
Amazake (sweet sake) will be served and there will be a rice cake tossing event as well.
If you are in the area, please stop by.
